Participants Review How to Share Faith

SUNDAY, MARCH 27, 2011

Norma Patterson just returned from Haiti full of praises for the work being done there to rebuild facilities and minister to the people. She shared tips on how to share the good news of Jesus Christ with Haitians. She said they're eager to hear and learn about God. The "bridge illustration," personal testimonies, and literature in Creole are the main tools participants will use to share their faith during the upcoming July mission trip.

The bridge illustration visually shows the gap between God - who is holy, perfect, and eternal - with mankind - who are sinful in nature (Roman 3:23; 6:23; and Hebrews 9:27). The bridge is Jesus Christ (Roman 5:8 and I Timothy 2:5; Romans 10:13; John 1:12; John 5:24).

Personal testimonies should include the following:
1) my life before Christ
2) how I was drawn to Christ
3) how I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior
4) my life after Christ

During the meeting we also discussed possible ways for our church and community to minister and support this ministry even if they can't go along:
  • clothes drive - summer clothes only
  • shoe drive (flip flops?)
  • providing Bibles in Creole
  • providing hygiene kits (which are like "gold" to the Haitians, according to Norma and Roxanne)
More details later about which ministry(ies) the church feels led to pursue.

Joy House works with about six churches in Haiti and an orphanage to meet the needs of people and share the love of Jesus.

Matthew 25:35-40:

[Jesus said] "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
   37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
   40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Praise for 30 salvations in Haiti

MONDAY, MARCH 21, 2011

News from the Joy House in Gressier, Haiti... A medical team has been working for the past week. They traveled to many locations and treated more than 1500 patients, and more than 30 Haitians accepted Christ through this ministry. Sunday, March 13 was a ground-breaking ceremony to start rebuilding the church that was completely destroyed in the Jan 2010 earthquake.

Those planning to go on the mission trip to Haiti this July are obtaining passports and seeking prayer partners. At the next planning meeting, prayer partners are encouraged to attend, and the down payment is due.

"The ministry opportunities are great, and I know God has an amazing plan for the Fellowship Baptist team," said Roxanne Clement, one of the trip coordinators.

Please also remember the victims of another more recent earthquake in Japan.

Mission Trip Planned

THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2011

Pastor Buddy Funk will lead about 15 Fellowship Baptist Church members for a mission trip to Haiti in mid-July 2011 through the Joy House organization.

Jesus said to them: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem [your city], and in all Judea [your state] and Samaria [your country], and to the ends of the earth." ~ Acts 1:8

What we'll be doing:

Specific missions activities may include:
* construction
* evangelism
* ministering to kids at orphanages
* women's ministry
* medical assistance for pregnant women and babies
* food distribution
* conferences for leaders
* Bible classes for adults and children
* life skills classes
* assistance to missionaries already living there
* teaching English as a second language

Once we have assembled our team for sure, we'll prayerfully determine what ministries the Lord is calling our team to tackle during our week-long stay.

Costs:

Haiti is the poorest contry in the Western Hemisphere, and running the Joy House ministry entails costs that U.S. citizens don't normally encounter such as translators, security, bottled water, and generators because there's usually no electricity.

The most expensive portion of the cost will be airfare. We're praying the tickets will be $700 or less. Fellowship Baptist Church members will be voting about covering a portion of the Joy House fees. If approved, participants will be required to pay only $250 additional, for a total of about $1000 per participant.

The down payment of $250 is due March 27.

Costs include transportation with security to and from the airport and to ministry sites, meals, lodging, security on grounds, bottled water at ministry sites, translators, fuel for generators, and supplies.

If you would like to partner in this ministry by making a monetary gift, please let one of the team members know.

Seeking prayer support:

Please be in prayer for those who feel called by God's will to minister in Haiti.

General prayer requests for participants:
* that Satan would be bound and that preparation for the trip will go smoothly.
* that all members would be wholly devoted to Christ and ready to serve.
* for fundraising efforts and that all money will come in as needed.
* that God would place a burden for the lost, especially those in Haiti.
* that the hearts of the people in Haiti will be receptive.

If you know someone who is preparing for this mission trip,
please let them know you're praying for them!
